The Law Society of Namibia (LSN) is seeking to appoint a Manager: Compliance
The LSN plays a key role in protecting public trust monies entrusted to legal practitioners. Through annual inspections of Legal Practitioners’ trust accounts, the LSN safeguards against misappropriation and ensures compliance with its rules and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Onboarding & Entry Compliance
- Interview all legal practitioners for new firms and ensure 100% accurate processing of applications.
- Administer evaluations/tests for new firms, new partners, and directors to ensure knowledge of practice rules.
- Maintain and develop a training program for new applicants, updated quarterly.
- Provide assistance and early guidance to legal practitioners on firm openings and firm’s organisational changes.
- Monitoring & Compliance Oversight
- Monitor new firms for compliance with the Act and Rules, providing early guidance and risk mitigation.
- Conduct annual evaluations of partners and directors for purposes of issuing FFCs.
- Conduct annual compliance visits to firms and bookkeepers, ensuring issues are addressed.
- Prepare affidavits against non-compliant practitioners for enforcement purposes.
- Report auditors to PAAB when required.
- Submit monthly reports on risk and compliance matters to the Director and Council.
- Audit & Financial Oversight
- Evaluate 100% of incoming audit reports for accuracy and compliance.
- Evaluate audit refunds and ensure timely submission to the Legal Practitioners’ Fidelity Fund (LPFF).
- Manage tender processes for auditor appointments to ensure transparency and good governance.
- Assist with curator bonis matters
- Fidelity Fund Certificate (FFC) Management
- Manage all FFC and exemption applications, ensuring deadlines are met.
- Evaluate FFC applications and recommend approval/denial to the Director.
- Simplify and streamline the FFC application process for efficiency.
- Develop and implement an electronic FFC application system for long-term modernization.
- Capacity Building & Stakeholder Engagement
- Propose and arrange training programs for staff and legal practitioners.
- Through the Director issue circulars to practitioners for capacity building and regulatory updates.
- Negotiate improved banking benefits with at least two financial institutions to support members’ financial interests.
- Maintain and update the database of firms and auditors monthly to ensure accuracy of regulatory records.
- Develops, drafts, implements, and monitors policies to strengthen governance and compliance frameworks.
Minimum Requirements:
- The applicant must be a Namibian citizen
- Bachelor’s degree in Law, Accounting, Auditing, Compliance, or related field, with completed article.
- Minimum of 5–7 years’ experience in compliance, auditing, legal regulation, or risk management.
- The applicant must be in possession of a valid driver’s licence.
- Advanced understanding of Word and Excel and PowerPoint presentations
- Strong knowledge of financial oversight, regulatory frameworks, and governance principles.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive matters with integrity and confidentiality.
- Excellent research, analytical, and reporting skills.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication abilities.
